6000 Mile EV Road Trip - Stay 14
Revelstoke | July 10-13, 2024

We left Jasper on July 10 to attend afternoon tea at Chateau Lake Louise, where Suzanne and I had visited over 30 years ago. The hotel hadn’t changed much, but the glacier had receded alarmingly. You know, you study climate change, and you read about receding glaciers, and here it is—proof positive.
The tea was lovely and it was extra special to have our daughter with us to experience this special place.
After Tea, we returned to the road for the trip to Revelstoke from Golden, where we Supercharged and left a Tesla cache. This road has been regularly listed as one of the deadliest roads in Canadian Rockies during the winter due to frequent avalanches, and sure enough, on the way, we could see many avalanche warning signs and mitigation efforts underway. But just like our drive across Newfoundland last summer where Moose warnings were ubiquitous, we never saw hide nor hair of an avalanche.
Revelstoke, BC, is a small town whose population doubles during the winter, as it is primarily a winter resort. The Revelstoke Mountain Resort, which opened in 2007 and is still in construction, has a 1,710 meters (5,620 ft) vertical drop, the longest vertical descent of any ski resort in North America. When the resort is completed at 10,000-acres, it will be the largest ski resort in North America. During the summer, mountain biking and hiking are the primary activities and there is a very popular Mountain Coaster, which our daughter rode during our time there.
The community of Revelstoke is delightful. We stayed at the Courthouse Inn, a very nice bed & breakfast with comfortable rooms, a great staff, and excellent breakfast. Our favorite local restaurant is the Old School Eatery, which is housed in a former schoolhouse. We also enjoyed REVY.Live Outside, which is held each summer from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM in Revelstoke’s Grizzly Plaza. We were able to enjoy two nights of roots music after dinner—such a great event that brings the community together along with summer visitors. The performers are well known throughout Canada, and most are recording artists.
Regarding charging, there are many EV Chargers in Revelstoke, including 2 Tesla Supercharger Stations, a 120 kW (4 chargers) and a 250kW (8 chargers). There are also 8 150 kW CCS chargers, 2 350kW CCS, 4 50kW CCS chargers, a 50kW CHAdeMO charger, a 100 kW CHAdeMO, and a smattering of L2 chargers.
