6000 Mile EV Road Trip - Tesla Caching Summary
2024 Road Trip Tesla Caching Summary • June 15 – August 8, 2024
Written by John Martinson
On this road trip, we left 30 Tesla Caches at various Superchargers in the US and Canada. We tried to leave at least one in each state, province, or area that we visited: Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, (no caches left in Idaho), Alberta (Canada), British Columbia (Canada), Oregon, Washington, and California. The map below is a great visual of our trip!
Of our 30 #-tagged Tesla Model X Matchbox cars left for others to find, 14 (47%) have been logged so far! Many of those logged one to three Supercharger stops. However, one car has been logged 19 times (and counting) throughout Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Utah, and Montana.
TeslaCaching was inspired by the concept of geocaching. Drivers leave a custom-tagged Tesla car (Matchbox or Hot Wheels) for others to find. Because we were driving a white Model X, Suzanne found and purchased white Model X Matchbox cars online, I drilled a small hole in the cars, and we attached our custom tags using a wire loop attachment. Attached tags have the car name and/or number, a short description of what Tesla caching is, and a QR code. When found, the tagged Tesla car can be logged at the TeslaCaching site accessed through the QR code and then taken to the next Supercharger and left there for someone else to find, log, and take to their next Supercharge, and so on.
Note – we did not leave caches at all ßthe Superchargers we used (49 total) and we did not leave any at non-Tesla Superchargers (like destination/travel chargers), so this map does not represent all of our charging. (See the previous blog post 2024 Road Trip Stats for charging details and stats.)
