Pat’s Rivian Story
Scottsdale EVA Mission: “accelerate the transition to electrified transportation.”
On February 18, 2023, Scottsdale Electric Vehicle Association held its monthly meetup at an Electrify America charging station in North Phoenix. We did not know what to expect but were greatly surprised when five Rivian R1T’s showed up—all in different colors. We also met several other non-Tesla EV owners who had come to charge up at the station, most of whom became members of our chapter.
Since we promote these meetups on our website, many of the EV-curious who follow us show up as well. One gentleman named “Pat” spent the better part of an hour chatting with me about my Arctic White Rivian R1T, at which point he said that he wanted one just like mine—same color, same trim, and same extended battery. He asked how long it would take if he ordered one that day, and I said about a year or more and then I offered that I would keep an eye out for a low mileage used one with these specifications.
At our next event, three-weeks later, Pat showed up again and spent some more time sitting in in the vehicle and asking questions. I shared with him that our April 15 meetup would include a drive afterward where the cars would go for a drive up to Payson in the eastern mountains, and the four-wheel drive, high-clearance EVs would do an off-road trip up the scenic, rocky, gravel Four Peaks Road over the Mazatzal Mountains to Roosevelt Lake and back.
A few days later, Pat reached out to me and asked if I knew where he could rent an R1T to join us on the off-road drive. I referred him to a Turo provider with an R1T but warned him that he might not let him drive it off-road, which, as it turned out, was the case.
Then, about 5 days later, one of our Facebook followers posted a 2023 Arctic White Rivian R1T for sale, with extended battery and 5,000 miles on it. I immediately forwarded the post to Pat and 2-days later, I received this text from him:
“Getting it!! Should have it by Thursday. Guess who’s pumped.”
And 3 days later…
