6000 Mile EV Road Trip - Stay 24

Port Orford, Oregon Coast | July 30 -31, 2024

Written by John Martinson

The drive down the Oregon Coast from Newport to Port Orford was magical, providing access to various beaches and other geological features of the coast. We loved exploring the Suislaw National Forest’s Devils Churn Day Use Area, where a system of trails through a coastal forest provides access to many vistas along the lower portions of the cliff. An excellent interpretative sign provides information about the flora and fauna of the rocky intertidal area of the coastal ecosystem. If we’d had the time, we would have stayed here all day.

We arrived at our Port Orford destination, the Wildspring Guest Habitat, which is a unique bed & breakfast with just 5 cabins for guests. I stayed here 6 years ago and thankfully, not much has changed. The trees are a bit taller and there are a few more carvings around, but staying here is like being one with nature—the cabins just melt into the moss-covered forest-scape. Here, there is a great feeling of love and peace. I awoke early and went for an au naturel walk in the forest and came upon two fawns who walked with me as if I weren’t there. A faded sign on a tree read, “BLISS.” I couldn’t agree more.
