6000 Mile EV Road Trip - Stay 23
Newport, Oregon | July 29 – 30, 2024

Our escape from Sisters along Route 20 (the Santiam Highway) was, thankfully, uneventful. Although we could see smoke from the two fires, it did not affect our travel to the coast. We arrived at the Newport Tesla Supercharger (where we left a Tesla cache), juiced up, and drove to a completely rebuilt Whaler Inn in Newport, Oregon, where I had stayed 6 years ago. The new hotel was very comfortable and at $226 for a good room facing the ocean with all the amenities necessary, we were pleased.
We enjoyed lunch at the Tap House Tavern, and dinner at Sorella, a super nice Italian restaurant a short distance from our hotel where we enjoyed Castelvetrano Olives marinated in EVOO, fennel, coriander, mustard seed, and chile flake; amazing Zucchini Frittes in garlic-chile honey aioli, a Margherita pizza, and a nice Oregon Pinot Noir.
