The Nature of Things: Charging Ahead - Transitions in Sustainable Transportation

On Saturday, February 3, 2024, Valley of the Sun EVA particpated in a round table discussion at the Chandler Library, which has been featuring a series of educational events called “The Nature of Things”. This discussion was led by ASU Associate Professor, Dr. Jennifer Richter.

The title of this event was “The Nature of Things: Charging Ahead- Transitions in Sustainable Transportation”. With about 2 dozen attendees there was a lot of discussion about all sorts of related topics, from EV statistics to autonomous vehicle technology and what the world might look like 100 years from now. Informative dialogue about battery production and waste, as well as equity and access to vehicles and charging infrastructure, all attendees left better informed about what the transition to sustainable transportation looks like.

VOTSEVA members Shaun Barnette, Peter Culin and Rachel Culin were key VOTSEVA volunteers in the discussion, helping to dispel common misconceptions about EV technology, and outlining many of the benefits of driving electric.

During the discussion, VOTSEVA members John Morrill, Adam Draper and John Martinson maintained an open-to-the-public EV display in the parking lot in front of the library. After the event inside, attendees were invited to come outside and experience the EV display and learn even more about them.
