EV Road Trip Day 25

Happy Birthday to Suzanne this morning as we departed the beautiful Glenora Inn and Distillery this A.M. with a full battery to complete the Cabot Trail through Cape Breton Highlands National Park!

“The Cabot Trail is considered one of the world's most scenic destinations, with stunning ocean vistas, old-growth forests, prehistoric rock scarred by glaciers, and the mysterious Cape Breton Highlands. It is named after the explorer John Cabot, an Italian navigator and explorer who landed in Atlantic Canada in 1497, although modern historians agree his landfall likely took place in Newfoundland and not Cape Breton Island. His 1497 voyage to the coast of North America under the commission of Henry VII of England is the earliest-known European exploration of coastal North America since the Norse visits to Vinland in the eleventh century. We stopped in the town of Inverness for coffee and breakfast and then to the Chéticamp Campground at Cape Breton Highlands National Park for a brief charge-up where they had 8 Level 2 EV chargers (4 CCS and 4 Tesla Destination Chargers).

Circumnavigating the Cabot Trail was amazing and dramatic, with dozens of overlooks, waterfalls, plunging lush green valleys, and patches of fog clinging to cliffs. Then to the eastern side where the steep, curvy road brought us to Neils Harbor where we again up a travel charge at another 8 Level 2 EV chargers (4 CCS and 4 Tesla Destination Chargers). Both of Park travel charger locations were vacant, offering us our pick of the chargers.

Once we descended from the Park, it was a snaky path along the shore over a short-haul ferry and long bridge to North Sydney where we able to DC Fast Charge at a Flo station (no line), before arriving at the Chambers Guesthouse B&B and enjoying a gourmet dinner at the Black Spoon Restaurant.
