6000 Mile EV Road Trip - Stay 2
Farmington, New Mexico
Written by John Martinson
June 18-19, 2024 • After a great breakfast at the Inn of the Five Graces, I once again visited Seret & Sons to say our farewells to Ira and let him know we will be hearing from us after we get home. Then we departed around 11:45 AM for the The Casa Blanca Inn at Farmington. The drive via Interstate 25 south to US-550 from Bernalillo to Farmington was quite scenic, with sweeping valleys, broad colorful mesas, and interesting rock formations.
We arrived around 4:30 PM at The Casa Blanca Inn, which provides two Tesla (level 2) Destination Chargers. Although there are Tesla Superchargers in Farmington, we generally prefer to stay at hotels with free charging. This is my sixth stay at The Casa Blanca Inn, each time for a one-night stay—perfectly located for a night stay on a road trip to Colorado, Utah, and points north. Accommodations are very comfortable, the neighborhood is quiet, and the breakfasts are good and accommodating of our vegetarian preferences.
After a brief respite, we drove to Three Rivers Brewery, also known locally as the “Husband Day Care Center” on Main Street for veggie burgers, our usual dinner locale when staying in the area.
The next morning (Wednesday) after breakfast and on our way to Moab, Utah, we cruised down Farmington’s Main Street Historic District, stopping at Artifacts 302 and Studio Bake Shop, an artist studio, gallery, event space and bake shop café opened in a remodeled historical lumber yard/hardware store. After touring the gallery and speaking with some of the artists, we picked up some coffee-to-go and baked goods and continued down the rest of Main Street to Shiprock, then north on US-491 to Colorado and east to Utah, before taking the incredibly scenic US-191 to Moab.
