EV Road Trip Day 16

We awoke to 49°F. Locals call early June, “Junuary.” We left Camden at 10:00a after a tasty blueberry croissant bake breakfast and drove the very scenic US-1 road to Calais, stopping a few times to charge. We left a Tesla Cache in Quispamsis, New Brunswick, where I spoke to two long haul truckers from Texas about EVs and then drove to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. It was a long days journey into night…arriving at 10:32p.

About 85 to 90% of New Brunswick is forested. Today, less than one percent of old growth Acadian Forest remains, and the Worldwide Fund for Nature lists the Acadian Forest as endangered. New Brunswick lies entirely within the Appalachian Mountain range.

In the 2001 Census, ethnicities in New Brunswick were 40% British and 31% French Canadian and Acadian and 18% Irish. Acadians are the descendants of the French who settled in the New France colony of Acadia during the 17th and 18th centuries. Acadia covered what is now the Maritimes, as well as bits of Quebec and Maine. According to the Canadian Constitution, both English and French are the official languages of New Brunswick, making it the only officially bilingual province, with 34% of citizens reporting that they speak both languages, as is the trend across Canada.

We passed through New Brunswick and ventured on to the Province of Prince Edward Island (PE).

PE’s capital and largest city is Charlottetown, where will be staying for the next four nights at Charlotte’s Rose Inn, a boutique bed & breakfast in Old Charlottetown. We will have plenty of time to explore the island, relax and get some exercise.

Lots of moose warnings in New Brunswick.
