EV Road Trip Day 51
We walked over to Toronto’s Distillery District today, a dramatic fusion of old and new. An inspired blend of Victorian Industrial architecture and stunning 21st century design and creativity. The result is an internationally acclaimed village of one-of-a-kind stores, shops, galleries, studios, restaurants, cafes, theatres and more. The Distillery Historic District opened in 2003 and today it is widely regarded as Canada’s premier arts, culture and entertainment destination. A place brimming with creativity that is still developing.
We had lunch at the amazing, El Catrin Distileria, a Mexican Restaurant that claims, “the largest tequila and mezcal collection in the country.”
Some interesting menu items:
- GUACAMOLE EN LA MESA | Avocado, tomato, onion, fresh cilantro, serrano chile, corn chips, gluten free, vegetarian
AS IS, $18.00
W/ CRICKETS $22.00 (Real crickets imported from Mexico)
Suzanne asked the at-the-table guacamole-maker-dude about them and he said, “you oughta try them.” Suzanne asked, “have you ever tried them?” Dude: “first day they taught me how to make the guacamole, they made me try them.” Suzanne: “would you eat them again?” Dude: “uh, no way!”
- WATERMELON AGUACHILE
baked watermelon, guajillo aguachile, amaranth, cilantro, red onion, cucumber, lime juice, tortilla chips $15.00 (BAKED WATERMELON?)

For cocktails, Eco had a HORCHATA COLADA | 1800, coconut, rumchata, horchata, coconut cream, pineapple juice
and I had a CUBAN MOJITO | Havana 3yr, muddled mint, sugar, soda
Canada has no plastic straws, but the waxed paper straws matched the drinks
