EV Road Trip Day 6

Today was not a driving day. Had a great breakfast at the Azalea Inn, and walked down to the Mercer-Williams House where “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” was filmed, for an excellent and very informative tour of the home and learned all about the fascinating real life of Jim Williams, on whom the film and “non-fiction novel” was based. Then we walked further along to the Telfair Museum, which houses an extraordinary collection of art and Sylvia Shaw Judson’s bronze Bird Girl sculpture from the Bonaventure Cemetery that is on the cover of the book, DVD, posters, and in the film itself.

Had lunch of an epic cream of tomato basil soup with grilled cheese sandwhich (best I have ever tasted of that favored combination) at Franklin’s and then walked back to the Inn and rested for the rest of the day. It was blue skies and sunny today with patchy clouds–upper 70s and very humid, which sapped our energy.

After an afternoon respite, we found a great Asian Fusion restaurant for dinner called, The Vault Kitchen + Market (once a bank), for just what the doctor ordered—grilled tofu, tofu and edamame dumplings, and veggie rolls.

Tomorrow, we are off on I-95 to Florence, SC, then I-73/74 to Greensboro, NC, and then US Route 29 to Lynchburg, Viginia for the night.
