EV Road Trip Day 5
Slept late (an hour later) and brought Grogu down for breakfast. Manager said, “Sorry, no pets!” I tried to explain that Grogu is our service animal, but that didn’t fly, so Grogu used the Force to confuse the manager…problem solved.
After a short drive in cool, overcast conditions, we charged briefly at the Brunswick, Georgia, Supercharger where we left another Tesla Cache and met a friendly couple with a beautiful red Model 3 Performance and a very well-behaved Golden Doodle. He owns a corn and soybean farm in Ohio and a place in Florida and is a car collector (19 cars in his collection, including a Rolls Royce originally owned by J.P. Morgan). The missus is from Australia. They were excited to meet others that support EVs, so we hit it off.
After a short drive of 141 miles, we spend two nights in Savannah, Georgia, a place we have always wanted to visit. For me, it was the “American mystery thriller film, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997), based on John Berendt’s nonfiction novel of the same name and follows the story of an antiques dealer, Jim Williams, on trial for the murder of a male prostitute. The film was directed and produced by Clint Eastwood and stars John Cusack and Kevin Spacey. Three characters in the film, The Lady Chablis, Emma Kelley, and Jerry Spence play themselves, and one of Williams’ lawyers plays the judge in the film.”
We are staying two nights at the Azalea Inn, a B&B in the Historic District of Savannah, the largest National Historic Landmark District in the United States.
We arrived and set about finding a place for lunch. After a walk to Forsythe Park and up Bull Street, we settled on The Public Kitchen and Bar, which had outstanding food! It was windy and a bit chilly at 67°F, but we enjoyed the al fresco sidewalk dining.
The Inn is gorgeous with a dining room with amazing wall paintings and period furniture. Our room, the “Cotton Exchange” is in the main house—a large suite with a private porch, a very comfortable bed, and a living area with a day bed and gas fireplace. There is also a free Tesla Destination Charger in the parking lot.
The Inn is adjacent to the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD), which is in the midst of graduation ceremonies, so there were a lot of students in caps and gowns about. Savannah’s historic district is a great place for such a campus with amazing parks, historic buildings, and great restaurants.
We dined at “The Haunt,” a vegan restaurant based on wild mushrooms, next door.
Speaking of “The Haunt,” we have heard that we might be in for a few surprise visits from the supernatural…
