EV Road Trip Day 22
We slept late, then walked down the street to Nº 9 Coffee Bar where both the filter coffee and the vegan scones were outstanding. They had outdoor seating in a garden setting ‘neath a Honeysuckle Tree with lots of cute little finches. It was a perfect cloudless day at 60ºF with 82% humidity, feeling more like 78ºF.
After finding some great art and other local-made items in town, we sauntered down to the Lunenburg pier and signed up for a two-hour sailboat tour. The father-son Captains, Craig (the dad) and son Merrill made for an engaging and humorous tour, and the ketch, Eastern Star, was a perfect vessel for our afternoon outing. Midway into the cruise, Suzanne was asked to steer the boat, which included a tacking maneuver.
Afterwards, we enjoyed lunch on the dock and then joined a walking tour of Old Lunenburg, learning more about the town’s history and its significance.
After a brief rest (with a much-appreciated nap) and another long walk, we arrived at The Knot Pub for dinner, where we met a serendipitously engaging group at a bar designed to encourage interaction among guests–and what turned out to be a highlight of the trip. The three couples were very friendly and jovial, including a gentleman wearing a Sun Devils T-shirt and his wife who used to own a second home in Mesa, a local couple (Tom, a world-traveler and his wife who is an 8th generation resident of Lunenburg), and a fun couple from Colorado who were also signed up for the Ghost Tour later that evening. After a great dinner of nachos and onion rings (the nachos were amazing), Tom gave us a lift to the tour.
The ghost tour was a late evening walking tour that took us to a few of the same places we had been to on the Old Lunenburg walking tour with a very “different perspective,” as well as a visit to an underground crypt and a lantern-lit stroll around the cemetery. All in all, one of the best days of the entire trip.
